Yarn-Braided Ice Ornaments

theartstadium

One of our favourite things to do in the winter is to make icy creations! Ice castles! Ice structures! Ice gems! And ice ornaments :) It brings some joy to the cold months and.....I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS NEXT PART......it actually helps us to look forward to extreme winter temperatures. Imagine that!

These ice ornaments were inspired by a silicone mold sheet I found at Michaels for 80% off! I cannot pass up such a deal, especially during prime, ice-making season!

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • containers (we prefer silicone ones because it makes it easy to pop the ice out)

  • water

  • yarn

  • scissors

HOW TO MAKE:
  1. Fill your molds/containers with water and place outside overnight.

  2. In the meantime, find some yarn you love in order to make braids. We liked the look of the thicker yarns and worked with strands that were about 70 cm long.

  3. Pop your ice out of the containers. If there isn't already a hole in your ice, you can use a drill to create one.

  4. Fold your braided strand in half, push the loop (at halfway point!) through the hole in your ice ornament. Pull the tails of your braid through this loop and pull tight.

  5. Knot the ends of the braid so you can hang your creations outside.

When the sun hits them, you will be in awe <3

We hope you're making the most of the cold weather, wherever you are!

Love,

Linds XOXO
