Is your neighbourhood doing this really sweet thing where they all unite at a certain time to cheer for those on the frontlines? Ours is! And the neighbourhood down the road is #GOALS in this regard. They start with the Canadian National Anthem and then bring out their pots, pans, buckets, and noisemakers once it finishes. I hope you’ve gotten a chance to experience something like this <3
We decided to make our own shakers for our nightly cheer time! They sit right beside the front door, ready to be brought out to the porch at 7:30 PM!
WHAT YOU NEED:
paper tubes
aluminum foil
scissors
beans/lentils/rice
packing tape
washi tape, markers, stickers, etc.
HOW TO MAKE:
Close one end of a paper tube by covering it with a small square of aluminum foil. Use packing tape to secure it.
Add beans, rice, or lentils to the tube and then secure the other side of the tube with aluminum foil. The foil adds to the sound effects
Decorate the tube using markers, washi tape, or stickers.
ACTIVITY EXTENSION:
Encourage others in your neighbourhood to join the fun!
Make additional shakers using other items from the recycling bin (e.g. yogurt containers, juice jugs, etc.)
CONNECTION STARTERS:
Who are our essential workers?
How do you think they feel going to work each day?
Can you think of other ways we can thank these workers?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
Adding the beans/lentils/rice to the tube with care
Special designs or patterns
Interesting use of materials
Joining the community in something special
Showing gratitude for the service of others
We hope to hear you making some noise later today! Be sure to tag us @theartstadium on Instagram!
Happy connecting! <3
XOXO,
Lindsay
