Playing in a Field of Poppies (Self-Portrait)

After learning about the word peace and exploring what it means to us, Kindergarten artists created these vibrant fields of poppies and darling self-portraits to go on top :) Wouldn't these be beautiful to display at a Remembrance Day ceremony?

WHAT YOU NEED:
  • green cardstock

  • red paper (different textures/shades) cut into "poppy" shapes

  • black paper (cut into centers - I used both a circle and a heart punch)

  • white cardstock

  • black Sharpie

  • scissors

  • gluestick

HOW TO MAKE:
  1. Students can assemble their poppies by gluing various red poppies onto their green cardstock. Each poppy will also need a black center.

  2. While the field of poppies is drying, students can create their self-portrait using a black Sharpie on white cardstock. To encourage more detailed portraits, we talk about different body parts we have and things that make us look like us (e.g. hair length, hair type, glasses, etc.)

  3. Cut out each self-portrait and have students glue their portrait onto their poppy field.

Sending love and wishes for peace,

Love,

Linds XO
