I don’t know about you, but sometimes I make a mad dash for the Playdoh bin to reduce the decibels and restore the peace! There’s something so soothing about this material and it’s our household go-to when things get a little crazy. Ah-hem….we use this material FREQUENTLY.
Take a look at the cutest Playdoh Robots you ever did see (compliments of one rowdy afternoon):
These long limbs….so, so cute!
A kitty robot! With whiskers!
A one-eyed, big-hearted, rusty-limbed cutie <3
WHAT YOU NEED:
Playdoh
Googly eyes
Bit and Bobs (washers, nails, screws, beads, wire, etc.)
Optional: rolling pin, basic shape cookie cutters
HOW TO MAKE:
Using Playdoh, create a head and body for your robot. All styles of creating work here – molding, squishing, rolling, or other!
Add googly eyes to the face.
Use bit and bobs to give your robot a smile, limbs, and – most importantly – personality!
ACTIVITY EXTENSIONS:
Use Post-It notes to label the different parts of your robot.
Write a description of your robot. What can they do? Where do they live? What qualities make them great?
Write a short story and let your robot be the main character!
CONNECTION STARTERS:
How does the Playdoh feel in your hands?
How did you decide which materials to use?
What is your favourite part of your design?
What do you think a robot sounds like?
What is a good name for your robot?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
ability to manipulate the Playdoh into different forms and shapes
choice of materials
unique ideas (e.g. an unexpected number of limbs or other parts!)
These robots are proof that you really can turn a grouchy afternoon around! TRUST ME!
