We are a kitty-loving household with two cats – Ben and Winka – that we rescued in Kuwait. They are the cutest duo around (#biased) and my husband takes an allergy pill daily so that we can keep them around
Take a peek at these paper tube kitty cats!
WHAT YOU NEED:
Paper tubes
Glue gun (hot or cool melt)
Glue sticks
Paint
Paintbrush
Craft foam
Paper
Yarn
Markers
hole punch
HOW TO MAKE:
Use the glue gun to glue paper tubes together, lengthwise. We used three paper tubes for the small kitties and eight for the bigger kitty!
Paint your new structure. We wanted ours to look like our pets, so we stuck to orange, brown and grey!
While your structure is drying, use craft foam or paper to create ears, eyes, a nose, and whiskers!
You may also wish to create a tag for your kitty to give it a little more personality. We gave each one a name and then mounted them onto sparkly paper. We used a hole punch to attach a string and tie it onto our kitties!
Glue on the various parts on the structure to give your kitty a face!
Thread a string through the top paper tube to create a way to hang your kitty!
ACTIVITY EXTENSIONS:
Gift your creation to a cat-loving friend!
Explore other animals you can make using the same paper tube structure!
CONNECTION STARTERS:
What are some of the things you love about cats?
Which of your friends have pet cats?
How can we show respect to our furry friends?
What can you do if you find a kitty that looks lost or hurt?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
using materials from the recycling bin
safe use of the glue gun and scissors
painting with care
letter or word formation while creating tag
showing independence with creative decisions
I hope you find value in using the conversation starters in this post! A big part of creating with us is generating connection in addition to art. In this one, we explore empathy towards other creatures <3
Please tag us @theartstadium if you make some paper tube kitties of your own! We’d love to see them
Happy connecting!
XOXO,
Lindsay
