Does anyone else look at hosta leaves and immediately think:
CANVASES!!! SWEET, SWEET CANVASES!!!!
We do!
And if you were the neighbour who caught us sneakily snipping hosta leaves from my husband’s gardens, now you know what we were up to
WHAT YOU NEED:
leaves (we like hosta leaves because they are large and vibrant green!)
white acrylic paint!
paintbrushes
scissors
HOW TO MAKE:
Snip some hosta (or any!) leaves from the garden! Honestly, hostas seem like an invasive species so if you have any, you will definitely have leaves to spare!
Decorate the leaves with white acrylic paint. We chose to use patterns and shapes rather than anything more concrete
ACTIVITY EXTENSION:
If you hole punch the leaves, you can string them together to make a nature garland!
CONNECTION STARTERS:
What observations we can make about these leaves?
What is your favourite type of leaf? Why?
What sorts of patterns can we use to decorate our leaves?
How can we display our painted leaves?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
helping to find and cut leaves from garden
safe use of the scissors
using acrylic paint with care
knowledge of patterns
making independent decisions during the art-making process
If you aren’t able to find any hosta leaves at your place, I’m sure you can sneak into our garden without my husband noticing
We’d love to see your painted leaves! Please invite us to your viewing party by tagging us @theartstadium
Happy connecting, friends!
XOXO,
Lindsay
