Creating with nature is so much fun and I’m starting to think it is the ultimate (yet, most overlooked!) craft supply! Don’t tell my husband this, though, or else I may never be allowed to shop at Michaels ever again!
This week we made these nature critters, which happen to be full of personality, if you ask me
WHAT YOU NEED:
nature walk treasures (sticks, leaves, acorns, petals, bark, etc.)
heart hole punch (if you want to create the heart-punched petals we used!)
glue gun (hot or cool melt)
HOW TO MAKE:
If you don’t have a garage full of nature treasures already (like us, haha!), start this activity with a nature walk. You may wish to bring a bag or container to make carrying your treasures a wee bit easier!
There really are no rules here! Once you have materials to create with, the only real instruction is…..”GO ON & MAKE!”
ACTIVITY EXTENSION:
Write a story about your nature critter!
CONNECTION STARTERS:
What is your favourite season to go for a nature walk? Why?
What sounds did you hear during our nature walk?
What is your favourite treasure you collected?
Which material do you like working with best? Why?
Tell me about your critter!
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
following family guidelines during walk (e.g. wearing hat or sunscreen, staying within a certain area, etc.)
showing creativity with use of materials
using materials as intended (e.g. using rocks for art instead of throwing them!)
making independent decisions during the art-making process
reflecting on artwork and moving nature pieces to get the desired look
safe use of the glue gun
We can’t wait to see your nature critters! Please tag us @theartstadium so we can see how you’re putting the greatest craft supply to work!
Happy connecting!
XOXO,
Lindsay
