The Tortured Poets Department has been the soundtrack of our summer, which sounds rather morbid but brings us so much happiness. Trust me - listening to my 9 year old belt out the lyrics to "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" with such fierceness in her voice has gotta be what it feels like to see Taylor Swift sing it live. I say "probably" because we haven't been able to secure tickets to her Eras Tour.....yet. (Growth mindset, right?)
When the Fortnight single dropped, we were inspired to create by the scenes in her music video! The black and white with only a smidgen of colour, as well as a tattooed Taylor? We just knew we had to make something!
WHAT YOU NEED:
print-out of tattoo-free Taylor from Fortnight music video
black paper
washit tape
fine-tipped black Sharpie
black watercolour paint
light blue and peachy-coloured acrylic or tempera paint
light blue and peachy-coloured glitter
typewriter letter stickers (ours are from Michaels!)
watercolour paper
paper towel
glue stick
HOW TO MAKE:
Use a black Sharpie to add tattoos to Taylor's face. This part is so fun and allows for lots of creativity! Obviously, "Fortnight" was playing on repeat during this process.
Mount her portrait onto black paper and set aside.
Create a washi tape border on your watercolour paper. You will remove this after painting is complete!
Paint as you like with black watercolour. Explore different strokes and techniques!
Allow watercolour to dry and prepare the light blue/peachy paint.
Scrunch up paper towel, dab it into the blue and peach paints and then dab on top of your black watercolour art.
Sprinkle glitter onto wet paint areas.
Remove the washi tape to reveal a crisp, white border.
Once dry, glue your portrait onto the painted piece.
Use typewriter stickers to highlight lyrics from the song or something else of your choice!
Catch us in action here:
Maybe if we only make Taylor Swift crafts from now until November (Toronto Tour Dates!), we will help manifest Taylor Swift tickets....
Happy creating, our dear Tortured Poets <3
Love, Linds
