The girls wanted to add some colour to their mudcakes this week and, since we’re in between flower blossoms (post-tulip and pre-roses), we settled on citrus slices to brighten up their mud kitchen offerings!
I think the slices met their culinary needs! And they definitely met my mosquito-repelling needs! (But actually – did you know that mosquitoes dislike citrus scents?! This is an added bonus, people!)
WHAT YOU NEED:
old muffin tin or tray
dirt
water
citrus slices (we used lemons and oranges!)
scoops or spoons
HOW TO MAKE:
Slice citrus fruits and place on a tray.
Designate a mud-making area in the yard (e.g. near garden or in mud kitchen).
Make sure both dirt and water are accessible.
Let the kiddos have at it with the various supplies you allow!
ACTIVITY EXTENSIONS:
Make citrus “teas” or “juices.”
Create a menu outlining the name, price, and ingredients included in the mudcakes.
CONNECTION STARTERS:
How did you make your mud?
How did you know how much water to add?
What does the mud feel like in your hands?
What tools do you find to be the most helpful?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
Getting messy! Everything is washable
Engaging in imaginative play
Staying within the adult-designated area
We’ve never made such beautifully scented mudcakes before! If you try them yourself, please tag us @theartstadium! We would love to see them!
Happy connecting! <3
XOXO,
Lindsay
