Listen, Prime Days just happened and we have a large supply of cardboard in the garage that Phil is not allowed to put into the recycling bin just yet. Plus, it's an Olympic year and my brain is full to the brim with Olympic-themed art ideas! What can I say? Abundance was good to me this week :)
How fun are these medals we made?!!!!
The girls get all the credit for execution & creative design - I came down with a cold (or something like it!) and didn't get to participate in the crafty fun. Luckily, I had prepared the cardboard circles pre-pink-eye-etc and they were painted gold and ready to go. GO ME!
WHAT YOU NEED:
cardboard
tracer (we used the lid to a glass canister)
pencil
scissors/box cutter
gold, acrylic paint
ribbon (we found ours at Michaels)
Posca paint pens
Black Sharpie markers
Embellishing items in Olympic Ring colours
Hot glue and glue gun
HOW TO MAKE:
Trace circles of your desired size onto cardboard. Cut them out using scissors or a box cutter. Near the top of the circle, cut a slit large enough to allow your ribbon to pass through.
Paint your circles gold (or whatever colour you prefer!). Allow circles to dry.
Embellish your medal using pom-poms, beads, gems, markers, or whatever tickles your fancy! We used hot glue to secure all of our bits and bobs.
Determine how long your ribbon must be. Cut the ribbon, run it down through the slit you cut in step one, and hot glue the tails of the ribbon to the back side of the cardboard circle.
Ta-da! Sport that hardware like the Olympian that you are :)
We used them for a family Olympics organized by my sister-in-law. Think stuffy toss and piggy back races in the backyard :) Because they look so darn cute, we made one for each participant. And everyone happened to win a gold one! It was miraculous! ;)
I hope you're having as much fun watching the Olympics as we are. Being sick isn't fun, but optimistically speaking, I lucked out with awesome television :)
Sending glitzy gold medals to all of you <3
Love,
Linds XO
