Because our daisy ice cubes were such a great hit, we haven’t been able to pass blue chicories without thinking about making the exact same thing! And so, on one of our daily nature walks, we collected some blue chicories for another round of floral ice cube making!

Because our daisy ice cubes were such a great hit, we haven’t been able to pass blue chicories without thinking about making the exact same thing! And so, on one of our daily nature walks, we collected some blue chicories for another round of floral ice cube making!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • ice cube tray

  • blue chicory flowers

  • water

  • freezer

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Go on a nature walk to collect chicories!

  2. Fill an ice cube tray with water.

  3. Remove the stems from each chicory and place one chicory in each water-filled compartment of the ice cube tray.

  4. Freeze overnight.

ACTIVITY EXTENSIONS:

  • Make ice cubes using other types of flowers!

  • Create a mud kitchen menu, highlighting chicory ice cubes as the weekly special

CONNECTION STARTERS:

  • What is your favourite type of flower?

  • Do you think the chicories will change shape or color in the freezer? Why or why not?

  • What beverages or foods do you hope to make with your chicory ice cubes?

THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:

  • following family guidelines during nature walk (e.g. wearing hat or sunscreen, staying within a certain area, etc.)

  • helping to collect chicories

  • removing stems carefully (so as not to break off petals)

I can’t decide which ice cubes we like more – the daisy ones or these ones! In fact, all I can really think about is what other flowers we can use for this exact purpose!

Happy connecting, our nature-loving friends!

XOXO,

Lindsay
