Our house is BARBIE CENTRAL!
Honestly!
We might even be more obsessed with Barbie than the company itself
Take a look at the latest…
Pretty high-fashion, don’t you think?! Let’s get your Barbies runway-ready too!
WHAT YOU NEED:
small box (we used the top part of a Tassimo coffee box)
acrylic paint
paint brush
paper (we used craft foam and glitter paper)
scissors
glue (we used our cool melt glue gun, but white glue also works!)
embellishments (pom-poms, gems, feathers, stickers, etc.)
HOW TO MAKE:
You may not need to do this step if you are working with a plain box, however, we coated our box with two layers of white acrylic paint.
Cut out various shapes from whatever paper you choose to create with. We liked working with triangles and rectangles best!
Arrange the shapes on the box as you like and adhere them with glue.
Embellish with the remaining materials!
MOST IMPORTANTLY: HOST A BARBIE FASHION SHOW!!!
ACTIVITY EXTENSION:
We aren’t joking about the fashion show. HAVE ONE! My girls set up a little runway with guests and cued up music for each look!
CONNECTION STARTERS:
What does it mean for something to be abstract?
Have you ever seen a fashion show on tv?
What things make a fashion show exciting to watch?
Which Barbie is going to wear your box head?
What other accessories could we make for Barbie?
THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:
repurposing cardboard from the recycling bin
making independent decisions during the art-making process
scissors skills!
sharing materials
using an appropriate amount of glue
reflecting on artwork and moving different pieces to get the desired look
When I posted this craft idea on Instagram, a follower suggested a ZOOM Fashion Show. How fun would this be to do with cousins or friends?!
Happy connecting!
XOXO,
Lindsay
