ALPHABET SOUP

If you’re looking for an easy, peasy back to school craft – look no further! This alphabet soup will meet all of your “let’s get into school mode” needs, while embracing the “let’s still have fun!” demands from your kiddo

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • piece of paper (we used poster board because it’s thicker!)

  • tempera paint

  • oil pastels

  • alphabet stickers (ours are made of craft foam!)

  • white glue

  • gold star confetti

  • paint brushes

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Paint your paper with various colours of paint!

  2. Once dry, use oil pastels to create swirls, spots, and other interesting lines!

  3. Add alphabet stickers, as desired!

  4. Using white glue, give your soup some added pizazz with gold star confetti!

ACTIVITY EXTENSIONS:

  • Pair this activity with alphabet soup for lunch or dinner!

  • Talk about the letters in each “bowl” of soup (e.g. What sounds do they make? What objects begin with each letter?)

CONNECTION STARTERS:

  • How did you choose which paint colours to use?

  • What type of lines or markings can you make with the oil pastels?

  • Are our letter stickers upper or lower case?

  • Do you have a favourite letter?

  • What are the letters in your name?

  • What letter makes the sound ____________?

  • What letter does the word _______ start with?

THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:

  • painting with care

  • variety of lines or markings with pastels

  • knowledge of letter sounds

  • fine motor skills while applying stickers and gold stars

Wishing all mamas the very best as school resumes this fall! YOU GOT THIS!

Happy connecting!

XOXO,

Lindsay
